I will be 50

and because I will live to 102

that means it's almost half over. Come celebrate my almost halfwaymark with me in my favorite place on Earth, Agios Georgios, Antiparos. We found this little island 11 years ago and fell in love with this side of it. And now we want you to see why you can never reach us from June through August. There will be eating, music, drinking, boating, swimming, strolling, wine-ing, and definitely eating. All you have to do is show up on the island, check the schedule, and come say geiamas!

Meanwhile, below you'll find just a touch of information. Kalo Kalokairi!

Renata, the amazing owner, is a trip & worth the visit alone. She also carries incredible wines, mostly Greek, and can be found right on the water's edge at the port. Let her know you're Anaximander's friend and she will already know you like a best friend.

Do you also dream of renting a car from a surly Greek yiayia who has the voice of Susan Sarandon & the charm of Joe Pesci? But seriously, they deliver, they're always on time, they are truly lovely people. Tell them you know the Americans from Agios Georgios. Yes, they have all types of cars.

Local island legends have it that Odysseus here bested one of Poseidon's favorites, the cyclops Polyphemus, who lived in this cave. It is the only cave in all of Europe with this kinda vertical drop & its magic has me still visiting it every summer 11 summers later.

By far my favorite way to get around & the preferred mode of transportation for the locals is Gianni's bus service. It goes from the port to the cave to Captain Pippino's & back. But Gianni will stop wherever if you give him a heads up. Easy, cheap, real. He also runs a taxi service.

Staying a bit longer? Paros has some of the best restaurants in the world, and one of its villages is steeped in history: Michaelangelo visited this village just to find the best marble. Stay in Lefkes, in the mountains away from the beach, for something different. Be sure to find the yiayia in the Old Town Square for a taste of the baklava.
